Different AVs

Nick Crowe's identinet project consists of a series of downloadable 'avatars' (rudimentary 2D representations of human figures that chat room users can select as their virtual stand-ins in the chat room environment). Until now, the range of options has traditionally been limited — shiny, happy cartoon people who all look like or Barbie or Britney, or garish computer-graphic figures. Crowe's additions to this cast of contemporary archetypes are drawn from his own urban environment in Manchester — the disarming realism and gritty universality of his characters offering an amusing alternative to the available repertoire of mainstream fantasy icons.
