"Different AVs was a project where I built several Avatars (AVs in the slang of the day) for use in a group of chatrooms that ran on software called The Palace. This was an early visual chatroom software which had started out life as a commercial concern but quickly went bust and was effectively taken over by its users who then ran the servers and maintained the code. At some point after this the users of The Palace realised they could customise their avatars (which had previously been only smilies) and build new ones. Commonly these would be pictures of celebrities, barbiesque dolls or goths spewing blood. The avatars I built weren't like that."
